A couple of years ago I spent a week or so in northern Vietnam. One of the most fascinating things I did was spend two nights on a boat tooling around Hao Long Bay. It was almost winter time, so there was a lot of fog in the air that made the whole experience feel a little mysterious and surreal. We’d be slowly crawling along and all of the sudden these huge rock formations would just appear, rising up out of the water in the middle of the bay.

Last year sometime, I read The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History by Elizabeth Kolbert. It’s concerned with how mankind is making it much more difficult for the rest of the species on the planet to continue living on said planet. It’s as horrific as you think it might be. Maybe even worse.
I was inspired to create this ongoing series of posters to highlight the most endangered animal species in the world. They are for sale on my shop page at Society 6. If you buy one, 100% of all proceeds will go to the World Wildlife Fund.

A couple of years ago, an organization was started to save some of the old neon signs on Colfax Avenue in Denver. Colfax is the longest street in Denver and a lot of the signs are for businesses that are still in operation. As they’ve fallen into disrepair, the businesses typically replace them with cheaper alternatives. Save the Signs was created to help the businesses repair them instead of destroying them. I created this series of posters to help raise money for the preservation effort.

Recently, I discovered Deckstarter, and needed an interesting project for self-promotion, so I decided to build a deck of cards. I’ve always been a tad obsessed with pop culture, the cult of celebrity and what kind of toll it must take to live your life in the spotlight, so my mind pretty readily went to a pop culture card deck. I think this current style of illustration that I’ve been exploring is perfect for reflecting the personalities of famous people. It flattens them out and and promotes them to icon status which is, in and of itself, a (somewhat satirical) comment on the pedestal we erroneously put them on.
